Fall73WINTERLAND
N Y er , visiting the Golden Shores for the first time. Not to miss the Dead, I was lucky enough to catch these few but very impressive Winterland shows.
...
Fall 73-74 being my fav years I find little to say but how amazing they all sound but held together by the leader of the band, everyone’s uncle,Jerry Garcia. To this day,I can find nooks and cranny’s of incredible guitar work between all the other groovy stuff from their humble beginnings to their horrible demise in 95 God luv those moments in my life,Thanks……

The Same ole' Friends, the Wind and Rain
Upon my first listen, 11/11/1973 plays exactly how you'd expect one of the "best of 1973" shows to sound. It's mellow, imperfect and details quite well
...
their aged psychedelia. I have gone through long stretches of not understanding the Dead's music. My usual behavior was sifting through YouTube, and picking one song from 72 another from 78 and then finally a second set from 1968...I was all over the place! It's taken me a long time to see that in order to appreciate something, for what it really is, you must sit and become aware of its beauty over time. Life is too short for you to listen to 10/25 and not hear 11/17 or 2/15...we all play favorites, but the key is to become one with the music. To sit and understand and Know the words that our friends are singing, have sung. And, now that Charlie Miller has these tokens, consider yourself lucky! We are endowed to appreciate this music. This message is not for All, that i recognize. My thoughts here might only pertain to me. That's my journey...but, what is Life? If not the chance to embrace chaos and form this into reason. Peace to All Human Beings

A Sure Thing
For those of you whose mission is to scour this archive in search of that hidden diamond in the rough (of which there are many to be found), this is not

the show for you. There’s a reason why some shows garner fairly universal acclaim for greatness. This is one of “those” shows. More what I’d call a “sure thing,” for when you want to press play and know you’re certain to hear a special performance. Good rule of thumb: when a show ends with “we bid you goodnight” it was a great one. (That should be in some kind of GD user FAQ for God’s sake). I’m compelled to quickly call out the Dark Star, not in derogation of anything else. Hardly. Just to note that it is truly top notch, at once beautiful and majestic, with a strong MLB jam to boot. So sit back, close your eyes and enjoy a gem from Winterland in 1973.

Rosemont. I am so grateful to be able to access these shows and enjoy them 43 years after the Dead rocked them out! Thank you to everyone who ever took the time to record these great shows! And thank you to folks like Charlie for cleaning them up! Someday I may be invited to tour some of the better shows with Peabody and Sherman but until that happens I feel lucky to catch these shows here!

5/8 can't hold a candle to 1973. Gorgeous first set and the creepiest DS 11/11.

here shines. Bertha>greatest, one of the best china>riders ever, a tearjerker of a to lay me down, and a fiery LIG highlight the 1st set. the 2nd set pretty much speaks for itself. i won't argue with the folks who call this the best dark star ever. the first time i heard that wicked jam coming out of phil's solo i literally said 'whoa' and almost fell outta my seat. the eyes is equally fantastic and i must also mention that the UJB is as great as they come; listen to Garcia's wonderfully melodic phrasing after the "goddamn well i declare" verses...utter bliss. absolutely undoubtedly essential and ubiquitous.
